Greetings all! I'm excited to offer online piano lessons and jazz vocal coaching.

For pianists:
I work primarily with people who have prior piano experience in other genres but are interested in exploring jazz, as well as more experienced jazz players. We’ll assess your current skill set, then discuss goals and approaches for guided practice. I try to focus heavily on balancing the intellectual side of the music (what notes to play, and why) with the less analytical, but essential, components of jazz: internalizing the time feel (swing), and developing your ear, i.e., the ability to hear and replicate both pitches and rhythms in real time.

For vocalists:
I work primarily with people who are interested in exploring vocal jazz. This means choosing and working on repertoire, for which I’ll record and e-mail you practice tracks. It also means studying the ways in which jazz singing differs from singing in other contexts (classical, theater, pop/rock, etc.) As with my piano students, we’ll focus heavily on internalizing the time feel of jazz and developing your ear, i.e., the ability to hear and replicate both pitches and rhythms in real time.
